I am taking steps towards keeping my New Year's Resolutions: Resolution #1, making my health a priority.
Too often, women in general, place their families, work or charities before their own needs. This is extremely relevant in relation to Black Women's health. Our health tends to always be something that we will get to after this or after that, or after this is done or that is taken care of.
Far too often, we ignore the voices of our bodies: the slight or constant pains, fatigue, sleeplessness or things that seem out of the ordinary. We tend to dismiss the voices of our bodies when they are speaking to us. We are beyond the time for Black Women to begin to prioritize ourselves and our own health: physical, emotional and mental health and well-being, first.
A large part of Black Women heal, means to heal holistically: mind, body, soul and spirit. It is okay to put your well-being first. Our failure in caring for ourselves could mean our failing to be present to care for the people and things that we love so well.
